JEMBRANA, NETIZENBALI.COM - PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero) officially launched its full port sterilization program at six major ports across Indonesia on Wednesday (August 5, 2026), including the busy Ketapang–Gilimanuk crossing, as part of a nationwide effort to enhance safety standards and operational discipline.
The policy, which was previously tested during a trial period starting on July 20, 2026, is now being implemented simultaneously at Merak, Bakauheni, Ketapang, Gilimanuk, Kayangan, and Lembar ports.
At the Ketapang–Gilimanuk route, the sterilization measures focus on strengthening operational compliance and tightening access control within port areas. The initiative includes extensive outreach to stakeholders, stricter supervision of personal protective equipment (PPE) usage, routine joint patrols, and a zoning-based access system that limits entry to authorized personnel only.
President Director of PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero), Heru Widodo, emphasized that port sterilization is more than just reorganizing operational areas.
"Port sterilization represents a transformation of our operational culture, ensuring that every activity within the port area is carried out safely, orderly, and in accordance with established standards. We aim to provide passengers with a more comfortable journey while increasing public confidence in ferry services," Heru said.
According to ASDP, access management on the first day of implementation proceeded smoothly and according to plan. The company introduced tighter controls through improved traffic management, digital technology integration, and enhanced supervision in collaboration with regulators and relevant authorities.
Corporate Secretary of PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry (Persero), Windy Andale, stated that the sterilization program will continue to be evaluated and refined to maximize its benefits for passengers and all parties operating within the port environment.
"The sterilization program will continue to be improved in order to foster a more disciplined, professional, and safety-oriented operational culture," Windy explained.
Through this policy, ASDP hopes to establish sterilization as a new benchmark for ferry port management in Indonesia, supporting safer and more efficient passenger mobility and logistics distribution across the archipelago.
The Ketapang–Gilimanuk crossing, one of Indonesia's busiest maritime routes connecting Java and Bali, plays a crucial role in the movement of people and goods. The implementation of stricter safety measures is expected to improve operational efficiency while reinforcing public trust in the country's ferry transportation system. (NB)
